Convention on Climate Change

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change was signed by 154 states at the UN conference for environment and development in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992. The framework convention on climate change was ratified by 50 states by the end of December 1993. The Framework Convention on Climate Change came into force on March 21, 1994.
Objective of the Convention
The long-term objective of the Convention is to stabilise the greenhouse gas concentration in the atmosphere at a level at which dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climatic system is avoided. "... stabilisation of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level,... to allow ecosystems to adapt naturally to climate change, to ensure that food production is not threatened and to enable economic development to proceed in a sustainable manner.
